Structure of Chromosome

Structure of chromosome Hi viewer:  The structure of chromosome is very subtle and so it has attracted the research scholars across the world to figure out its actual structure. Chromosome appearance and behavior has been studied extensively for the last fifty years.  It is only in the last ten years that much progress has been made in finding out the arrangement of molecules within them.  This structural pattern has thrown light on the fair understanding of its function.  Chromosome is a discrete intranuclear body was first observed and described by W. Waldeyer in 1888.  It was named so because of its conspicuous affinity to certain dyes (chrome-colour, soma-body).   Morphology (under light microscope) Shape:  Chromosomes can be studied in tissue sections but they are best visualized in squash preparations stained with orcein or acetocarmine.  Metaphase or anaphase chromosomes are considered to be most suitable for this purpose when they get maximally condensed with sharp outlines.  Five types of chromosomes are found depending on their position...
