Nervous system Definition:  It is the system that maintains general co-ordination in multicellular animals. Function of nervous system: To maintain a general co-ordination in the animal body. To respond to external stimuli and to adjust the body with the changing condition of environment. To maintain different equilibria in the body.   Unit of the system: The structural and the functional unit of the nervous system is called a nerve cell or a neuron.
